Toledobes officially started in 1955 with the purchase of a black bitch out of a German import with great bloodlines. Unfortunately she did not turn out to be show quality. In 1957 we were able to obtain a 5 month old red bitch that was a double Ch. Damasyn Dictator and Ch Alcor v Millsdod granddaughter. Her name became Ch Wahlmar's Baroness CD. She was the foundation bitch for Toledobes and every breeding is directly descended from her.

Baroness (Chemi) produced 6 champions. Due to a tragic bout with a type of distemper (hardpad) we lost four of the nine pups produced from her first litter sired by the great Ch Steb's Top Skipper son, Ch Alemap's Checkmate.  One bitch that survived was Ch Toledobes Barbiturate who was a multi group winner and a great producer. Toledobes Bhang, owned by Larry and Fran Waters, garnered 12 points. We ourselves owned Toledobes Benzedrine who had horrible distemper teeth and was never shown. Toledobes Benzene and Toledobes Bromide were both shown a little.

Chemi's next litter was a repeat with Checkmate. We were more fortunate in this litter. She produced Ch. Checkmates Chessman, multi Group winner and sire of many champions including a young black male sold by us to Fred and Julia Curnow of the famed Tavey Kennels in England. This male, Vanessa's Little Dictator, made a name for himself in England and Australia with his progeny. Another red male sold to a judge in Oregon, Ch Checkmates Chancellor, did quite well in the show ring. Ch Toledobes Classic Cameo produced 5 champions including a DPCA grand futurity winner, Ch Toledobes Quarterback and a bitch who did not finish but was the dam of the well known Ch Damasyn Carly. Ch Toledobes Covergirl, also a multi Ch. Producer and dam of DPCA Best of Breed, Ch Toledobes Linebacker.

A later breeding to Ch Browns Dion produced a multi Ch. Producer, Ch Toledobes Filibuster. Several others out of Chemi were pointed but for some reason or another never finished. Through her get many top kennels based their breeding programs especially in the Midwest. Many of our non champions have produced very well including the great Toledobes Generation Gap. She was only bred to Ch Andelane's Indigo Rock and produced 10 or 11 champions. One of her daughters, Ch Bishops Cassiopeia became number one in the breed, taking multi Best in Shows and Groups.

Many years have passed and many wonderful puppies have been whelped in our homes. In the last several years, judging commitments have interfered in our breeding program. It was a blessing that we became friends and eventually partners with Sue Brown.

Occasionally we place a nice bitch with another owner and work out a breeding agreement. This was the case with Mary Hernandez with Toledobes Riviera. She was a lovely Windwalker daughter, but not a good show bitch. Mary whelped the litters and brought them to Sue at 7 weeks and we had them cropped and kept them until we sold them. Riviera bred to 4 different males produced 11 champions. By Ch Sheer Force of Equinoxx she produced champions Toledobes Sheer Madness, Toledobes Sheer Ice, and Toledobes Sheer Chaos. By Ch Primary Caught Red Handed she produced Champions Toledobes Caught Cheating, Toledobes Caught In The Act, and Toledobes Caughtcha Lookin. By Ch Carosel Make My Day she produced champions Toledobes Make N Georgia, Toledobes Make N A Statement, Make N New Waves and Make N Traxx. Ch Toledobes Make N Georgia CD ROM was a Top 20 Contender and multi group and Best in Show winner. Ch Toledobes Caught Cheating is a multi group winner, but her worth in the whelping box is her main claim to fame. She is the dam of Ch Toledobes Serenghetti, the #1 Doberman for 1996 and 1997; #2 all breed in 1996 and #3 in 1997.

Sera is the all time top Working group bitch in history and the #2 Doberman in history. The number one Doberman is her Great-Grandsire, Ch Brunswig Cryptonite. Additionally, Sera was Best of Breed at the 1996 DPCA National. We are so very proud of her.

Sera has 3 other littermate champions, Toledobes Nairobi, Toledobes Sahara and Toledobes Zaire, DPCA 1995 Grand Futurity Winner. While Toledobes Safari is nearing the finish line, a half sister to Sera out of Caught Cheating, sired by Am Ch Julmar's Navaho, is now Ch Toledobes Pocahontas.

Toledobes have bred and owned more than 100 champions, many of these owner handled. While specialing in the breed ring is left to the new owners, we confine ourselves to mainly the whelping of top quality puppies. We have bred 2 DPCA National Specialty winners of Best of Breed, and 3 times DPCA Grand Prize Futurity winners. Lots of Best in Show and Group and Specialty winners, wonderful obedience title holders and now with agility becoming the fun thing of the 90's, our dogs are now enrolled in these classes.

If you wish to purchase a top quality puppy for pet or show, you must have a totally fenced in back yard. All pups must be home raised, no kennels. Someone must be home part of the day with youngsters for not only housebreaking but socialization as well.
